Best Fall Wreath Hack DIY for a Front Door

“Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.” An adapted phrase by Calvin Coolidge during the Great War. Making things work and not throwing everything out or buying new is right up my alley.

My fall wreath was falling apart (it was really old) and I had a wreath that wasn’t hanging correctly on my door due to it’s rectangular metal frame. Combining the two made sense. Easily update any older wreaths you have instead of tossing them out by following this easy guide and inspiration. πŸ™‚

Left: Wreath I created over 15 years ago. It’s seen better days. Right: Wreath that I love but the wire framing makes the wreath slide and bang around on the front door.

Supply List

  • Old wreath(s)
  • E6000 glue
  • Floral Wire
  • Scissors or wire cutters

Instructions

Step 1:

Remove glued on items and glue remnants from reusable wreath base. Or clip off any wired on items. The remaining sturdy grapevine wreath was the perfect amount of rustic charm that I wanted to incorporate into the re-imagined wreath.

Remove all of the former decorations from your wreath base. Be sure to pick off all glue remnants, as well.

Step 2:

Clip floral or decorative items from second wreath. Everything was zip tied together in bunches on the wire framed wreath, so it was really easy to transfer the arrangements over.

The simplicity of this wreath is so appealing that I want it to carry over to the grapevine base.

Step 3:

Prior to gluing down, place floral or decorations on the wreath base you want to reuse until you are satisfied with the new arrangement.

Yes, everything sits well and looks good. Now it’s time to glue it all down!

Step 4:

Attach decorations with E600 glue or with floral wire. Once dried, hang in place on the door. Don’t use hot glue because it doesn’t weather well in extreme temperatures. I actually learned that from this original leaf wreath. Through the years, pieces of leaves and berries would fall off when temperatures were markedly hot or cold. My wreath was taking the season Fall literally, ha ha.

This was done from start to finish in about 10 minutes. No joke. I did it while my mom and I were waiting for my boys to get ready to for a hike. You can see her black converse shoes in one of the photos.

Loving the color combo with the front door! What a way to welcome visitors in the Fall.

Can you believe how simple this is? A bunch of money was just saved and you probably prevented a small animal from extinction by reusing items. Probably. Face it, you’re basically a reduce, reuse, recycle goddess. Calvin Coolidge would be proud. I’m proud. Now get out there and conquer the world. Oh, yeah, just be sure to make your house a home while doing so.πŸ’™
