Paint Trends: Colors of the Year for 2021

2021 Paint color trends

I think it’s safe to say that 2020 has been a bit turbulent. If looking for a fresh start in 2021, there are a variety of paint colors to help you do just that. Many paint companies are embracing color to either ground the space or totally transform and shake things up. Another noticed trend for 2021 is a palette of colors instead of a singled out color for Color of the Year. With such a variety of colors introduced for 2021, I think it is safe to say that you should pick the color or colors that make you happy. You do you no matter the paint trends.

A general rule of thumb for picking color in your space is to go by the 60-30-10 rule. Sixty percent of the color is your main color, usually a bit more neutral. Thirty percent of the color is a secondary color that coordinates with the main color. The final ten percent is an accent color that can be a bolder pop of color for the space. But as with any rule, it can be broken as long as the color relationship makes sense. For more info about color and their relationships, check out my Color 101 post here.

You’ve Got This!

Paint is perhaps the least expensive and most impactful change that can be done to a room or a home. Nearly anyone can paint a room. With that said, sometimes we need more than one person to help out physically or emotionally.

I have lots of posts to help you through the process, many of them listed with links below. If you have never painted before you can give it a try as your new year’s goal. Keep perspective and remember that it is just paint and can be changed.

But to make things slightly easier, try out Samplize to purchase 12×12 inch adhesive and removable real paint sample(s) in the color(s) you are debating. The price is comparable to a small tester can of paint but can be moved around a room, unlike a painted swatch on the wall. I don’t have any affiliation with Samplize, I just appreciate their product. Maybe I should look into that though, hmmm.

My hope is that there is a color listed here that just speaks to you and whispers encouraging words while you transform your house into a home. πŸ’™…But not literally because if you’re hearing voices then you should seek help. πŸ˜‰
